Holiday Traditions

Do you have a favorite Holiday Tradition you'd like to share?  Maybe it's decorating freshly baked sugar cookies with your favorite toppings, stringing popcorn on the tree or singing Christmas Carols on Christmas Eve with your family.  Whatever the tradition, we would love to hear about it.

Here at Rough Hollow, we have many Holiday traditions of our own.  For one, every year Santa visits Rough Hollow, so boys and girls can scream with excitement.  We do it a little differently though, Santa actually arrives by boat and photos are taken at the marina on the shores of Lake Travis.

Spending time with family and loved ones is the best Holiday Tradition of all!

What's your favorite Holiday Tradition?

Roasting the Turkey

The invites are sent, the groceries are bought and the decorations are in place.  One problem.  You're not quite sure what to do with that 25lb turkey you just bought.

Have no fear!  Roasting the perfect turkey is not as hard as you may think.  Our friends over at Whole Foods Market (yes, we are anxiously awaiting their opening at The Hill Country Galleria) provide some easy tools for choosing the turkey, brining the turkey and roasting the turkey.

So, get ready to set the table, throw the bird in the oven and pop the cork because folks, Thanksgiving is almost here!

Although we have yet to try the brine method, we hear great things about it.  Tell us, do you brine your turkey or let the juices run over into the roasting pan for gravy?

You've worked so hard all summer long to get that bikini body you've been waiting for.  Now, the Holidays are starting to tempt every muscle to splurge, indulge and work it off later!  Hold the turkey, the stuffing and even the mashed potatoes, or wait, keep the stuffing!  Eating and exercising through the Holidays is not as hard as you may think.

Here's a sneak peak at some of the easiest (& rewarding) activities you can do to keep looking and feeling your best through the New Year:
  • Take a walk after dinner
  • Exercise in the morning
  • Park farther away
  • Round up the kids
  • Clean the house
  • Be a kid again
  • Walk, run or bike to your destination

The newly introduced water-themed Village Center is on its way and residents of Rough Hollow are anxiously awaiting its arrival next summer.  After all, who wouldn't love a junior Olympic pool, a fountain of youth and a rapids river slide?  Fun for the whole family!

Although even cooler temperatures are on the horizon, at Rough Hollow we are surrounded by water, so in that case, we're always thinking about it.  Lake Travis has been recognized as one of the cleanest lakes in the US and in the top three for scuba and water sports.  If you haven't visited its 65 miles of shimmering water and beautiful limestone cliffs, we recommend a trip (and maybe a wet suit)!  Water temperature is currently at 68 degrees.

Have you been swimming lately?

With Thanksgiving just around the corner, you've probably noticed the stores have not delayed in placing all their Holiday decorations in plain site and have already changed the XM to their favorite Holiday Station.  The glitter and glam is rapidly approaching and so is the 5th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at Hill Country Galleria.

This year's event is happening on Friday, November 18th from 5pm - 9pm and includes dance performances, live music, Christmas carolers, Santa and of course the tree lighting followed by a spectacular fireworks show.

Slip on your UGGs, wrap up with a scarf and grab some hot cocoa, because there's also plenty of shopping to do!  Hill Country Galleria is just a short drive from Rough Hollow and is mixed with several eclectic shopping, dining and entertainment experiences.

Will we see you there?
